Camp Organisers Checklist

Remember: "prior preparation and planning prevents poor performance")

Way, way before the camp…

  • Discuss the proposed camp with both your Principal and the Camp Director
  • Integrate the proposed camp across the curriculum (e.g. have the students cost out the camp in their mathematics period) Tips for Integrating
  • Fund raise

At least one month before the camp…

  • "Parent an Approval for Camp" form sent home and received back
  • "Camp Medical Authority" form sent home and received back
  • "Camp School Return" posted

Leading up to the camp…(the earlier the better)

You:

  • Organise open cheques for camp fees, excursions, tours, etc.
  • Supply information for students to make up own booklet (usually consisting of a foreword by the Principal; a copy of the "Behaviour & Safety Policy"; the programs enough "Dear Diary" pages for each day; worksheets and processing sheets; a copy of the clothing list; word/picture games – Spotto, Sleuths, crosswords, etc.)
  • Organise dormitory competition and allocation
  • Finalise evening programs
  • Make wet weather alternatives
  • Organise a staff roster
  • Brief all who are going to camp on everyone’s role whilst at camp … including the role of the Camp Director and his staff

Forwarded final details of the camp to the parents and campschool..

The Students:

  • Discuss the duty roster
  • Discuss the clothing list and take it home
  • Complete the form "Behaviour & Safety Policy"
  • Liaise with the teacher in charge of the camp for dorm allocation
  • Make up camp booklet
  • Practice, if necessary, items for the evening program

The Camp Director:

  • Receive last update of

a) duties for camp
b) suggestions for programs

  • Receive map of camp school and (available) background information on selected excursions and activities

Upon arrival to camp…WB01372_.GIF (406 bytes)

  • Meet the Camp Director
  • Allocate dormitories, place luggage in them, begin getting dorms organised
  • Students return to their dorms to complete unpacking and bed making. Setters and servers have their showers
  • Remaining students to have their showers
  • Dinner (the first dinner is run by the Camp Director unless specifically requested not to)
  • The evening programs begins .

During camp…

  • Re-read roles and responsibilities
  • Organise excursion thank you
  • Report back to the Principal
  • Ensure the stated rosters, competitions, policies, and programs run (to time)
